When and how did you get into drifting and/or other motor sports?
I worked for Dupont Motorsports, a Speedvision Touring Car BMW race team for two years (5 BMW's) Traveled from coast to coast working on the pit crew, and drove the cars on track from time to time. I became hooked on Road racing from then on. I Road raced for a year before I started drifting. I knew of drifting from some option video's I had, but never purposely did it. I would occasionally drift in a road race, when I was carrying to much speed through a turn, or hit some oil/dirt, but generally you don't want to drift in road racing. I entered the first US Drift National held at Summit Point WV, in my street car 300ZX TT and finished 3rd....
What was the first car you used for drifting?
300zx TT
How did it work out for you?
The car was very heavy, hard to drift. Suspension was stock besides Eibach springs. The car was impossible to Feint drift, which is my favorite technique...so I was forced to clutch kick. My e-brake sucked, so I ended up not using it.
What was your most practiced technique?
Feint by far...already had experience from road racing a car at its limit, and new how to control it to do what I wanted.....just felt natural.
What is it now?
Still is feint
Where are you looking to improve?
I would like to reduce spin out's, but think that the majority of that problem is tire related. I try to hold too much angle with junkyard tires 195/50/16's and other crap like that.
What types of events have you participated in?
If you mean drift only, it would be DG events/ Look out events, a Drift Showoff at Fed EX, and some US drift nationals.....If you mean all events, it would be SCCA Pro Spec Miata, Honda Challenge Championship, SCCA ITA, ARRC
What type of events have you competed in?
Same as above
Which events will you participate in this year?
Well I was planning on doing the first two FD events, but that plan got flushed when I was put on the waiting list @!#%@.....talk about disappointing. I like high speed drifting, and would love the opportunity to hone my skills and learn from all the top dogs in the game right now, and I think I could hold my own at that level.
What do you find challenging?
Low speed drifts....I HATE THEM! I think it is so much easier for me to drift in 3rd gear at 60 plus then at 15mph....probably because I rarely use e-brake, unless I have to. Prefer to initiate with feint or braking, nothing against e-brakes...just don't like it.
Who are your influences?
Anyone out there that is kicking ass, I like to study the techniques of the best, and try to emulate or modify there techniques to work with my style.
What modifications would you like to have in the future?
Good rims and a steady flow of consistent tires, switching from one random tire to another that is completely different is so aggravating, always re-adjusting to the new tire.
What are your future plans in drifting?
I would like to take it to the top, won't stop till I do, or I go broke!
Your thoughts on the future of drifting?
Hope it keeps its course, all this talk of it being a fad and fading away is bullshit. It's not going anywhere any time soon, only gets better from here.
Anything else you would like us to know about you?
Very experienced with suspension setup and tuning of all imports, if you see me at an event and have a question feel free to ask. I enjoy helping out a fellow drifter/racer in need.
