Just wanted to say hello to you all and introduce myself.
I am 28 years old. I have been building Honda's in some capacity for 12 years. I am more into speed then I am jiggy ricey looks, although I am a sucker for JDM parts. My days are spent being an I.T. guy, and the nights are spent with the wife and cars. I have been bit by the drifting bug. I am keeping my current 00 Civic as a daily driver, and after much serious thought, have decided to build either a 240 Coupe, or a Hachi. I like the amount of JDM parts that are available for the cars (although no body parts until I get some more time under my belt). The 240's are great beginner drifters, but the Hachi, well, they are the ultimate cult car. Well I just wanted to say hey, and I look forward to learning and talking with you all.... Any suggestions for a fairly new drifter that I should consider? Money is not a major issue, once I get started I have enough to keep going, and already have a few sources for rubber. as cliche' as it is. Buy the 240. Coupe, Hatch, S13, S14, doesnt really matter as long as it runs. The 240 is gonna be easier to find in junkyards, and there cheaper to find than a hachi-roku. thats my 2 cents, anyway.

99% of people won't be happy drifting an AE86. Low on power, power gains are quick to hit "law of demensioning gains", expensive to maintain, weak trans and rear end, and worth of all is the cult status. Man can new AE86 owners be annoying sometimes. Most I know are cool, but the ones who got it b/c they wanted to part of the "cult" are just there b/c they saw way too many Initial D episodes (like me)

Then gimmie your 8-6 now!!!! No, I'm one of the 1% who enjoy drifting my AE86. Though to be honest, I'm still trying to figure out why people say they are hard to drift. Mine is mostly fire and forget (clutch kick, counter, never lift) Why don't new people ever want domestics? Welcome! I'm newish too. If I were to start a "drift" car, I'd look long and hard at a Mustang GT (probably early SN95). -------------------- TRSCCA -- Tennessee Auto-X at its finest

No, I'm one of the 1% who enjoy drifting my AE86. Though to be honest, I'm still trying to figure out why people say they are hard to drift. Mine is mostly fire and forget (clutch kick, counter, never lift) I like to drift mine (and its not hard even with a 4ac) I bought it to drift but I just love the way it grips. I don't know why I like this car more than other cars I've had but now I only drift if its faster (gravel logging roads). I say if you want to drift get something with a little more power or you might fall in love with the grip like me and I started drifting when I got my license 7 years ago I used to hate griping. -------------------- “There are only three true sports, auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing, everything else is just a game.” - Ernest Hemingway

Why don't new people ever want domestics? Welcome! I'm newish too. I would if it werent for the fact I hate any vehicle with a solid rear axle. Except the Corolla. Love Hachi. I was looking at the 3rd gen camaro for a while, but trying to figure out how to read all the circle track stuff just made my head hurt. -------------------- ![]() |

Lack of power does not mean its a good grip car.

i want a coupe fox body mustang.
most domestics don't have alot of steering angle. also people who like imports get into drifting, people who like domestics get into drag racing. it's the same thing as people who like choppers and hot rods like 50s stuff. -------------------- |

hey welcome.. im one of the 1% ae86 addicts too.. ive even picked up a 240 to drift which lasted all of 1 month.. though it was a lot easier to use for drifting.. i have some addiciton to the damn 23 year old corolla i own. would i do better in a 240 prolly so.. would a 240 be easier to maintain and find parts for prolly so.. but do i like the 240 better than my ae86s.... HELL NO..lol. seriously whatever u get make sure it suits the purpose.. getting one cause they look cool or cause its jdm will piss u off real soon when u have to deal with issues not found on other cars. just looking for something to toss around anything with wheels will do.. wanting to get pretty good at drifting without a lot of mods and having to do a workout to run a drift course.. go with a 240.. why do u think theres so many using them.
