Qualcomm Stadium has canceled all drifting events after March 18th 2006.

We will continue in our effort to provide a place in San Diego for drifters to keep it off the streets. Check back here for more updates.

What's the reason for this?

Pretty much they are a bunch of assholes

And the auto-x guys didnt help either.

We had a bigger insurance policy then any other event, yet, they say we are too dangerous.

We had a number of accidents at the last event due to bad course design.

There were two more crashes, but they were not bad.

I hate to say it, but as an organizer myself, I'd say Qualcomm is making a smart decision. If someone allowed a poor course design to cause that many accidents, what could happen in the future if an errant spectator was out there where they shouldn't when an accident happened. It sucks to loose a location. I don't know what we would do if we lost our location, that’s why I press safety as #1 priority. Companies have to watch out for themselves.

As a side note, does Qualcomm have an underwriting company that checks and double checks the insurance policies to make sure that they are 100% not liable? I know Dover Downs Entertainment does. They are a PITA to deal with, but its makes me much more at rest knowing that no one is at fault (unless there is GROSS negligence.)

i agree, this could have totally been prevented. i would love to know who the insurance company was for this organization and if they allow them to hold more events and whether or not it affects insurance costs for the rest of us. what saddens me most is this harms the drifting community as a whole. it would be a shame for future venues that have considered allowing drifting to change their decision based on events like this (because even though this is the most recent incident, they are definately not alone).

I saw the video of that Z nailing the tree. Course design wasn't my first guess at what caused the crash rolleyes.gif But if it really was that bad then wow.

Crappy drivers should never be an excuse for accidents. Always design a course with safety for any driver in mind. Also, one accident could be chalked up to a "crappy driver" but not 5. More than one accident is course design and/or planning on the organizer's part.

Those kind of contridict themselves don't they? teehee.gif

I'm not trying to be an ass, just trying to show what organizers have to go though when setting up for a venue. When oganizations like US Drift, SEDA, DG Drials, Drift Assocation, or any other of the numorus drifting organizers screw up, its effects all the companies. Look at the infamous NOPI incident of 2004. It caused insurance rates to shoot up across the board for the most part. On bad course design or one "crappy driver" can screw it up for a lot of people.
